Unlocker (System)

After some time of inactivity, I present you a small utility that although it will be rarely used, when you will be in need of it, it would be proved valuable.

Unlocker is small program that will help easily , without rebooting, get rid of error messages such as:

  • Cannot delete file: Access is denied
  • There has been a sharing violation.
  • The source or destination file may be in use.
  • The file is in use by another program or user.
  • Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
  • etc
With a simple right-click on a file you can, rename it, end associated processes or just delete it even if that file is in use.

MusicBrainz PicardQT (Organize)

This free, open-source program analyzes your MP3 collection and correctly rewrites the identifying tags. MusicBrainz does this by first analysing the name and current tags of the file and then by computing a music file's digital fingerprint, based on its length and acoustic properties, and matching it in a growing online database of songs.

PaperBack (Backup ;-)

PaperBack is a free application that allows you to make backups on ... paper!
With the use of good laser printer the author claims that you can save up to 500,000 bytes of uncompressed data on a single A4/Letter sheet. To restore your backups you just need a scanner.

To answer your obvious question "Why use that program?" I'll quote from authors site:
"You may ask - why? Why, for heaven's sake, do I need to make paper backups, if there are so many alternative possibilities (...) The answer is simple: you don't. However, by looking on CD or magnetic tape, you are not able to tell whether your data is readable or not. You must insert your medium into the drive (if you have one!) and try to read it."

SyncBack (Backup)

SyncBack is a backup and synchronization utility that allows you to keep backups of your files and folder, or to synchronize them, so that both locations always have a complete copy. For example I use it to copy My Documents folder to a secondary disk every time my pc is turned on. Version 3.2.14 is still freeware.
